Hi everyone! My name is Ashlyn Zikmund and I am entering my fourth and final year as an ND student! My time here so far has been an exciting period of growth, new challenges, and learning to combine the many skills I have learned here at the University of Bridgeport.
I am originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience from Susquehanna University. My desire to study Naturopathic medicine sprung from my growing curiosity of how I could better care for my own body despite feeling that I had certain genetic set backs. I can say as a fourth year student, the academics in this program are certainly not easy, but learning self care and being surrounded by a naturopathic community has altered my mindset completely. My improved relationship with my personal health through naturopathic medicine has more recently intensified my excitement to be a part of this profession.
I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the COE Pathfinder program since my first year at UB, and feel that utilizing nutrigenomics and precision medicine is at the forefront of the naturopathic profession. By effectively using the software programs created by Dr. D’Adamo, we can predict certain outcomes and better prevent them through nutrition, lifestyle, nutriceuticals, botanicals, and patient education.
In the future I see myself working closely with women that have hormonal and or endocrine disorders. I feel there is a massive need for close attention and individualized care for this particular population, especially surrounding menopause. I am excited to continue to expand my knowledge in the many complexities of the human genome and the female body to bring health, happiness, and peace to my future patients.
